Desk lamps can often look cold, mechanical and static. Bendu, a flexible felt desk lamp concept, is anything but! Two weighted magnetic ends support a strip of LED light that is wrapped in felt, creating some structure but still allowing the LED strip to move and flex at will within a soft and tactile body. This allows the user to play and form the lamp into numerous shapes that each offer unique lighting opportunities. The magnets embedded into the ends create a strip that can connect to itself in multiple ways and also connect to the induction charging plate, magnetic surfaces and other Bendus!
Reimagining Interactions and Asking “What if?”
The objects around us can often become trapped in conventions that were previously defined due to old technological constraints. When technology advances, some of those conventions remain in place, out of habit and familiarity. Recognizing the opportunities that come with new technologies requires asking the all important question: “What if?” What if a desk lamp was bendable like a fidget toy? What if it was fuzzy like a cozy sweater? What if it could move around your desk and around the room, morphing into different shapes? Reimagining how we interact with everyday objects can break conventions and even create new product categories. Let’s break some conventions together!
